Progress Energy Heat Pump Rebate Contractor

Progress Energy offers customers an incentive to purchase new high efficiency heat pumps instead of lower efficiency heat pumps or electric heat systems.

Replace an existing low efficiency heat pump with a new high efficiency heat pump:

For 14 SEER system = $100.00 rebate

For 15 SEER system or higher = $150.00 rebate

Replace a straight cool air conditioner with electric heat strips or radiant heat system with a heat pump:

For 14 SEER system = $250.00 rebate

For 15 SEER system or higher = $350.00 rebate

Replace a non-eletrical heating system with a heat pump and receive:

For 14 SEER or higher = $50.00

What is SEER?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, the higher the SEER the less electricity or the more effiicient the system is. 10 SEER vs 15 SEER Savings

Most systems installed prior to 2000 are 10 SEER or less. Please keep in mind that systems also tend to loose efficiency with usage the following scale is a simplified example of savings from converting an older 10 SEER system to a high efficiency 15 SEER:

2 ton: $300.00 per year

2 1/2 ton: $375.00 per year

3 ton: $450.00 per year

3 1/2 ton: $525.00 per year

4 ton: $600.00 per year

5 ton: $750.00 per year

All of the above numbers are estimates depending on actual system usage. Don't know what ton your system is, a simple way to guess with older single family homes is 500 square feet of air conditioned space per ton of air, this is the average. Newer homes are more energy efficient and often require less tonnage for the same amount of space and
